K-8 Distraction-Free Education Act, Effective 2026-2027

In 2025, in response to growing concerns about how personal device usage affects students’ academic success, attention, and social-emotional development, the Georgia General Assembly passed the “Distraction-Free Education Act” (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-324.8). Under this law, as of July 1, 2026, bell-to-bell access to personal electronic devices by students in grades K-8 is prohibited. The prohibition of access to these devices will extend to high school students in the 2027-2028 school year.
